Just for Fun

I enjoyed logging on to Danielle Bean's blog this morning to see that she referenced a comment I left on our unusual large-family transport vehicle. So, just for fun, I thought I'd post a picture for those who are interested.

Jay likes to watch those reality TV shows where they take someone's junker car (or house or whatever) and refurbish it, and he is ever hopeful that someone will "Pimp My Ride" (as it has plenty of not-so-charming cosmetic and mechanical issues). Could be fun. Could be scary. In the mean time, it's actually pretty nice to have just the way it is.

Seriously, did you have to pay extra insurance for this or get a special operator license? I told my husband I wanted a stretch limo with a sound-proof glass divider (controlled by the driver, of course), and he thought we'd have to pay all these extras. It's too late now for me. But, man, you ROCK on the shock/fun factor.

This is the funniest, smartest, most clever ride I've EVER seen for a large Catholic family. Thanks so much for sharing!

Okay, before I tell my husband about this option...this is actually your car? No way! On catholic mom yahoo group, there's been great debate about what the large family should own. Most of the larger families kept singing the praises of the "full sized van." I'll have to link this to the group for sure.
P.S. I link over from michelle's blog

I am one of Danielle's readers who wanted desperately to see this awesome vehicle! I am so glad you posted- I cannot wait to show this to my kids who will be ever-so-jealous and my oldest boy will definitely appreciate the Pimp My Ride reference. You totally rock with this thing! :o)

This might be the coolest thing I have ever seen. Do you guys get some crazy looks when you pull up in that thing? How cool!

Hi, I'm here from Danielle Bean as well. We own the 2005-8 passenger version of your Suburban, but with every.single.seat filled, we've been looking at other options. I must admit, yours would definitely solve our seating shortage! What a find! Thanks for sharing--I'm sharing the link on my blog.

Answers to limo questions...

No, we didn't have to get a special license or insurance (I was pleasantly surprised by this). Only if we were operating it as a shuttle or real limo would we have to have both of these things.

Like Michelle, I dream of a glass partition between the driver and passengers, but alas it does not have one. There is a partition between the cargo and passenger area (to protect against shifting suitcases, I imagine) but that's doesn't do the job I want it for!

This is not my main vehicle--I drive it only occasionally. Right now, we all fit in the Sienna. I use the limo when we have extra kids or grandparents in tow, or when the Sienna is in the shop.

We bought this car mainly for the body, knowing we'd need to replace the engine someday. It has numerous issues that renders it unreliable, but so far it has always worked when I need it. It is loud, diesel, and hard to park, but so much fun to drive. If we have any more children, it may become the main whole family car, with the Sienna still in use for the drives not involving the whole family. But we will have to do some work on it between now and then.

The inside is not at all luxurious, just practical. It doesn't have power windows or locks, it only has lap belts and the air conditioning is spotty at best (not good in the desert). But, still, with a little TLC this will be with us for years and outings to come.

Thanks for all your comments--I love them!

I'm a new reader sent here by Mary at Owlhaven. I guess I am de-lurking although this is my first visit, so I guess I never did lurk.
I've heard of Mothers of many driving limos, but I haven't heard of them driving the stretch suv yet. Great idea and very practical!
I am a Catholic convert, too since 1999. Nice to meeet you! I have subscribed to your feed and look forward to reading more from you.

As I started to laugh out loud (again), I realize how practical and better looking this limo is than a giant "7th grade field trip" van for the family! I want pictures of all of you in the thing for your next Christmas card!

Here via Owlhaven too...had to comment when I saw where you live. We live in Inyokern...just over an hour north of you. Next time we are shopping down your way, I'll keep my eyes peeled for that massive vehicle.

My kids would flip to have that instead of our massive van! We can seat 11, so we have plenty of room for friends. (well, 2 friends, hehe)
I'll have to come back and show the kids!
I've never heard of large families using limos. That is a fantastic idea! Especially when the kids start driving, you can have them chauffer you around and look like a queen! I might go for that one. I don't like driving anyways.
God bless,

I also like such shows, but I always doubt if it happens to ordinary people. You write a latter on such show and one day they come to you...But I tried several times and nobody answered.

Nice limo! I'd like to rent it. You’re the luckiest person in this world if you have got a chance to taste the ultimate luxurious voyage in such a limo.
