In a 2009 article in New Scientist, John Barrett at the Stockholm Environment Institute in York, Britain confirmed the pet eco-footprint calculations in the book "Time to Eat the Dog: The Real Guide to Sustainable Living" by New Zealanders Robert and Brenda Vale.
The Vale's concluded that a house cat has an eco-footprint of about 0.15 hectares, slightly less than driving a Volkswagen Golf for a year.
So, "Eat your cat and buy a Vespa" might be better.
The kids, on the other hand, have at least some positive probability of doing something useful -- like solving the presumed problem of global warming.
Gotta love those bored hippies! What will they think of next?
Loved Jason's comment! I'm trying not to feel mean spirited about that individual in the Bay Area, but in practice he does get a "Darwin Award"!
Sad to hear, but not surprised, that the uninformed hippies up here are not up on the latest "Global Cooling". Apparently the globe has been cooling for the past 10 years according to the scientists. I hate it when logic and the natural cycle of things gets in the way. I guess I can stop telling my pet dinosaur to stop driving my SUV to mitigate global warming. Oh well.
