On the Road Again

I have been cleared to drive!

IF there is no other qualified, licensed driver available, IF it is local and necessary and only then. But still. I am thrilled!

I drove myself to mass yesterday morning and again this morning. It was so liberating! I have not driven, even once, since last July and I have missed being able to do simple things for myself. I can go get milk if we need it instead of having to wait for someone to become available to take me. I can pick up a sick child from school if called without having him/her wait in the office interminably while I find a ride. I tell you, it is the little things.

And the not-so-little things.

As what seemed to be a last ditch effort to do something about my constant nausea and aversion to food, the wonderful nurse practitioner in my oncologist's office prescribed a liquid medication called Megace, an appetite stimulus that has worked well in her experience. It is been a miracle for me this week. I have been nauseous only rarely and have been heartily hungry. I wish I had had this three months ago. But then again, if I had, I wouldn't be 15 pounds from my pre-decadron weight as I am now! So, everything, as always, happens for a reason.

I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to eat again. I missed enjoying food!

So, between my new found love of food and my ability to drive again, if you think you saw me in a drive-thru, you just might be right.

I saw you at mass from way across the church yesterday! You were moving so well and seemed so perky....of course I was looking around to see who drove you and was concerned for a moment that maybe you had become really rebellious and broken out of the house and went on a joy ride!!! I was hoping it was because you were allowed to drive again (although busting out kinda sounds like fun too)! Yay!!! Sorry I missed you this morning. I've been sick...so if I see you tomorrow I will be so thrilled...but I'll refrain from hugging you and giving you my Christmas cooties!!!! So happy for you Suzanne! Lots of love Mary Herbert

I am so happy for you! I remember meeting you when I was on the WASC team at Sacred Heart (I teach at St. Mary's) I just began a phase of no-driving, and it has been hard to Christmas shop and everything else. But...praise God, I recently found out I am in complete remission. I have only two more rounds of this rough chemo, and then I will only need to take a pill daily and have spinal injections once a month. I will keep you in my prayers!

Wait a minute here Tina, you have actually seen Suz eat raw fish? I find that very hard to believe..... So how about you / me sushi. Suz can drive and we'll stop and get her some battered deep fried chicken submerged in orange dye at Panda Express first. :). ......... xo
