It looks like Los Angeles has a new Archbishop!
Although not yet official, all signs point to the current Archbishop of San Antonio, Jose Gomez, who happens to be a priest of Opus Dei--the only bishop in the United States who is.
Needless to say, I think this is wonderful news. The priests of Opus Dei with whom I have become acquainted have been consistently inspirational, filled with fortitude and deeply motivated by love of Christ. Goodness knows, Gomez is going to need all of these traits and more to tackle the job of running our nation's largest diocese.
I will look forward to hearing this "on the record" tomorrow. Meanwhile, good night!

Hey now! Don't go taking our good people! We need all the help we can get too y'know!
I've heard Bishop Gomez has done some great things in San Antonio, so replacing him will be challenging. But I know much good work is needed in L.A. too.
Ya know Jen, you COULD follow him !! Well, not to LA but So. Cal somewhere..... :).... just sayin'
Hee Hee - the Los Angeles heretics are shaking in their boots!
Actually, from what I heard and read today, a lot of really faithful Catholics are also shaking in their boots.
People who only know "things they have heard" about Opus Dei are nervous sbout this appointment. I, who have read much about the organization and who have spent lots of time with members, can only say that I am sure, in time, he will prove to be a very good shepherd and people will soon wonder what on earth they were afraid of.
It's not only his ordination through Opus Dei that makes me say this, but also his 5 year record in San Antonio, which speaks for itself. He was a well-regarded, successful bishop there. I am sure he will be no less to us here in Los Angeles.
